Ajay (10 out of 10 ) The Star Trek Next generation team were ace in this film. Patrick Stuart, as always is the best captain and with Star Trek you can be sure that if the borg are around the movie will be interesting.
It would take ages to say thanks to all the stars but they were all first class.
The music, effects, make up and story was excellent too.
Bill (10 out of 10 ) Yep, too bad this draft never made it to be a movie :D
Jacob (3 out of 10 ) It was a pretty great movie. But this is a horrid draft. The humour and tension of the movie has been drained away. The unique characters from the past also dissolved. Unfortunately a lot of stupid elements from this draft that were cut from First Contact resurfaced in later Star Treks. The joystick-piloting-a-starship thing comes back in ST:IX and the Borg-Cubes-Dying-in-the-dozens thing appeared again and again in Voyager. The actual movie did seem to preserve this draft's wretched dialogue from the Borg Queen unfortunately.
Sean (5 out of 10 ) I love the movie but this draft is missing the films most epic theme: Picard's PTSD. His dream scene cut, his scene of drawing the line here and no further, the portion where he goes against Alliance orders to fight the borg all missing all important. Also Worf is on the crew in this script. Shouldn't he be captaining his own ship at this point? The script of the actual film great, this one not so much.
Powerslave (6 out of 10 ) This script is NOT how the movie actually went. There are many things that are incorrect, and did not even happen. This must have been a first draft.
Karl (7 out of 10 ) While the final script is surely better than this one, it would have been nice if the scope of the initial battle with the borg before they traveled back in time was more like the one in this script. It never did make much sense to me that they only sent 1 cube, and this is supposed to be their big assault on earth? If 1 cube can do that amount of damage to an armada of ships, why would they not just send half a dozen cubes and bypass the whole playing with history thing? Given the borg are all about control and certainty, why would they want to delve into messing with the timeline if they could just take earth in the present day? The only answer to that is the one offered by this early draft script- the federation actually could defend itself against more than 1 single cube.
Platitude (7 out of 10 ) Interesting, but definitely glad that they made changes. The final film is much better than this. I saw in an interview once that a lot of the changes were made because of input from Patrick Stewart, he wanted Picard on the ship. That was a good call.
Anthony (7 out of 10 ) Keep in mind this is less 'Star Trek: First Contact' and more 'Star Trek: First Draft.' This is good insight into how projects develop. Working writers don't have the luxury to just wait for inspiration, rather it emerges out of a process of refinement. Even the greatest movies would've been awful if you just filmed their first drafts, which is kind of the point: they're works in progress.
It's funny to read how the big battle scene at the beginning reads like a silly commercial for the Enterprise-E and all its snazzy new features, and it was a good call for the film to switch Picard and Riker's positions here. But there are some moments here I did like: seeing Data nearly entirely fitted with human skin would have been really striking, and there's a very nice character moment between Picard and Crusher that I appreciated.
This draft is an interesting look at a great movie in a period of gestation.
